Types of Braces
Traditional Metal Braces
Traditional metal braces are made of high-grade stainless steel and have many features built into the brackets to minimize treatment time. They are low profile so that they will feel comfortable to your cheeks and lips. You have the option of adding colored elastics to the brackets and can change the colors at each visit.
Self-Ligating Braces
Self-ligating braces are also made from high-grade stainless steel (TOP: picture of metal braces shows traditional braces on the left and self-ligating on the right, BOTTOM: clear self- ligating braces also shown). However, since self-ligating braces do not require the use of elastics, less friction is being placed on the tooth. Self-ligating braces come in traditional metal or ceramic. They are the same size as metal braces, but use a specialized clip in place of elastics to help the archwire guide teeth into place. The clip helps reduce the amount of pressure being placed on the tooth, and requires fewer adjustments because there are no elastics to replace.
Clear (Ceramic) Braces
Our ceramic braces are more clear than ever. They are just as effective as metal braces in achieving the perfect smile, yet they are barely noticeable. We also use a clear wire to give you a far less visible option than metal braces. Teenagers and adults often prefer this option. They do require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces will show trapped food particles.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners have become a very popular option for teenagers and adults. They are a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable BPA free plastic trays that straighten your teeth like braces. Since the trays are removable, you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment, plus brushing and flossing are less of a hassle. The aligners are comfortable and have no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment.
Lingual Braces
Lingual braces are cemented behind the teeth and are therefore undetectable when you smile. Lingual braces are custom made to match the shape of your teeth. Lingual braces are a very reasonable option for athletes, models, actors/actresses, musicians who play wind instruments, and adult professionals. They do require some getting used to as your tongue will contact them and speech may be affected initially.
